Provisions Division
Grain, Feed & Oilseeds Department
This department deals in corn, kaoliang, soybean meal, animal protein, wheat, barley, soybean and rapeseed. It operates in total value chain of each product to secure stable supply to Japan, China and other Asian countries, developing supply source in North and South America, Europe, and Australia and establishing grain logistics and distribution system including consolidating facilities.
Oil, Fats & Grain Products Department
This department handles vegetables oil such as palm oil and olive oil, and food materials such as rice, starch, sesame, flour, and soy bean for processed food. It has established safe, secure and stable ingredient supply systems by contracting with farmers for cultivation and strengthening procurement network around the world. It has also promoted product development and has expanded sales channel through alliances with suppliers and customers in Japan and other countries.
Sugar, Confectionary Materials & Dairy Products Department
The major activity of this department in sugar segment is worldwide trade of raw sugar, including to Japanese market, leveraging future market operation. In confectionery materials segment, it handles cocoa beans and cocoa products mainly sold to confectionary manufacturers. In dairy products segment, it handles cheese, milk powder and other dairy products imported from Australia and Europe. It also markets domestic and foreign branded cheese for retail.
Coffee & Beverage Marketing Department
This department trades green coffee beans from South and Central America, Asia and Africa, to Japan and other countries. In addition, it handles processed coffee products, such as roasted coffee beans, instant coffee and coffee extract. For beverage manufacturers, it also handles a wide variety of frozen juice concentrates and processed fruits products such as puree from all over the world.
Fresh Food & Food Business Solutions Division
Marine Products Department
We deal in tuna products (sashimi tuna, ingredients for canning, canned tuna, and pet foods), shrimp, squid, octopus and other frozen seafood and processed products. We take full advantage of the functionality of a trading company in a wide range of commerce formats such as third party transactions and imports to customers in Japan that link all corners of the globe, marketing to the food services industry through enterprises, and selling seafood produced in Asian countries to Europe, North America, and Middle East.
Meat Products Department
Our principal line of business is to import and market processed foods made with beef, pork, chicken and other livestock products. In terms of overseas joint ventures, we are also expanding processed food manufacturing business dealing in livestock in China and Thailand, and cattle farming in Australia. In Japan and overseas, we make comprehensive efforts in livestock-related products covering upstream to downstream areas.
Agri Products Department
The Fresh Produce Section imports and markets fresh fruits and vegetables, primarily the Dole brand, and deals with an expanded range of Japanese fruits, mainly geared to retailers, through subsidiaries. The section is also developing farms in China to secure food resources.
The Imported Food Materials Section imports and sells canned fruit including Dole canned pineapple, and frozen vegetables, while overseas we develop frozen foods and freeze dried food.
Food Service & Distribution Department
With more women moving into careers and family members eating at separate times, there is an increasing social need for tasty readymade dishes. The Food Distribution Section, in response to such need, is concentrating on developing systems for supplying readymade dishes and for developing flavorful and safe dishes. We also provide products to the main commercial wholesalers nationwide with the focus on marketing frozen foods manufactured by our subsidiary Yayoi Food Products Co., Ltd.
The Food Service Section undertakes comprehensive services in the food services business and provides a range of trading company functions such as building supply chains for food services and catering in Japan and abroad, delivering effective merchandising and supporting business development.
Food Products Marketing & Distribution Division
Food Products Marketing & Distribution Department
Through the main food wholesalers in Japan including ITOCHU Shokuhin Co., Ltd. and NIPPON ACCESS, Inc., we distribute commercial products made by Japanese manufacturers of processed foods, confectionery and pet foods to a range of sales channels, including volume sellers, convenience stores, department stores, general retailers, drug stores and DIY centers, while at the same time dealing in Japanese and foreign brands of foods, and exporting processed foods manufactured in Japan to Europe, the United States, and Asia.
FamilyMart Department
This department was launched with the purpose of increasing competitiveness in the industry and going beyond conventional formats to consolidate internal control over the management of the FamilyMart business as the core company for retail. We provide lateral support to the company as a whole, applying the full might of the ITOCHU Group to merchandising, store development, new businesses and overseas development.
China Business Development Department
This Department promotes the SIS strategy in China with respect to food.
It is involved in determining the China strategy for the Company overall and the development and promotion of new businesses with our partner companies in China (the Ting Hsin Group, COFCO, Longda Foodstuffs Group, Heilongjiang Agricultural Development Bureau, and others).
The Department also supports existing undertakings in China and aims to further expand business in China by strengthening collaboration with local corporations and group companies in China as well as with other overseas offices.
Business Process Operation Department
The Business Process Support Office, which was set up to take responsibility for deliveries for the Food Company, became the Business Process Operation Department in April 2010, with the expansion of the scope of business.
The department aims to contribute to the development of the company, helping to bolster its sales force by developing a risk and compliance management system and promoting streamlining in delivery operations.
