IT Solutions Business
Realizing Our Strengths in a Range of IT Enabled Businesses
Centered on IT solutions, we are extending our business lines to encompass new areas in Internet-related services, green technology, venture capital, and other emerging areas.
In IT solutions businesses, ITOCHU Techno-Solutions Corporation (CTC) is our core company. Since its establishment, CTC has developed partnerships with leading-edge overseas IT companies. Utilizing access to multiple vendors, CTC provides high-value-added products and solutions to a range of different businesses and industries. CTC is concentrating its efforts on increasing sales of services based on data centers, virtualization, and green IT solutions.
In the area of Internet-related services, Excite Japan Co., Ltd., operates a portal site service and ITOCHU Interactive Corporation provides web site development, operation, and management services. We are expanding our business into online advertising and the non-store retailing space.
In the green technology business, we are targeting the smart buildings and smart utility infrastructure area. We provide various solutions such as energy management services and energy control services with our technological expertise gained through our long history in the IT business.
In Japan, ITOCHU Technology Ventures, Inc., our venture capital business, participates in the development of many IT-related venture firms through the organization and operation of venture funds.
Communication & Mobile
Progressing in Step with the Development of the Mobile Phone Business
From the early 1990s, we recognized the potential of the mobile phone field and approached NTT DOCOMO with a proposal to establish “DOCOMO shops.” Since the opening of the first store in Hachioji, Tokyo, ITOCHU has become the largest agency in the Tokyo metropolitan area for NTT DOCOMO. Positioning ITC Networks Corporation (listed on the First Section of Tokyo Stock Exchange) as our core company, we are currently further expanding this business.
In addition, Asurion Japan K.K., an affiliate company of ITOCHU, has been commissioned to operate the Mobile Phone Protection Service provided by NTT DOCOMO. This affiliate is focused on providing value-added aftercare services to increase satisfaction levels among existing users of mobile phones.
Insurance Brokerage
With respect to insurance for trade transactions, ITOCHU provides high value-added marine cargo insurance, trade credit insurance and other risk solutions, utilizing know-how cultivated with years of experience as a general trading company.
For other transactions, ITOCHU Orico Insurance Services Co., Ltd.
offers highly useful insurance products in light of increasingly diversified and complex risks, as the optimal solutions for customers including both corporate clients and individuals in Japan. The company also provides insurance distribution services, offering total risk consulting services, scheme type tailored insurance products which our clients can use for sales promotion and insurance distribution services entrusted by other insurance intermediaries. I&T Risk Solutions Co., Ltd.
a broker with functionality aligned with the clients, uses know-how cultivated in ITOCHU’s overseas business to propose a variety of risk solutions.
Overseas, under the Cosmos brand name, ITOCHU has built the largest Japanese global brokerage network, with nodes in Hong Kong, London, Thailand, South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore. Besides offering solutions to Japan-affiliated firms in all parts of the world, we are building up transactions in the local markets. In London, we are the first Japan-affiliated firm recognized as a broker of Lloyd's of London. In global reinsurance transactions, we are also succeeding in further heightening our capabilities.
In recent years, the insurance market has continued to expand in burgeoning countries in Asia, which is accompanied by a surge in the need for reinsurance among insurance companies in every country. Amid such circumstances, we have taken a new strategic move to reinforce the reinsurance brokerage business by jointly in March 2011 establishing a reinsurance broker, Cosmos Risk Solutions Asia Pte. Ltd., with Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. in Singapore.
Reinsurance
In November 2012, ITOCHU formed a business alliance with Antares Managing Agency Limited (“Antares”), which runs a syndicate (an organizational unit that underwrites insurance risks) at Lloyd’s of London (“Lloyd’s”) in the United Kingdom, the world’s largest insurance market, to launch an underwriting business at Lloyd’s by underwriting reinsurance from the syndicate. ITOCHU will dispatch staff to Antares and gradually step up collaboration to jointly execute an overseas insurance business. In the Lloyd’s market, diversification of capital and human resources and growth in the ratio of underwritten risks from emerging countries are already underway. ITOCHU’s entry into Lloyd’s coincides with this.
Credit Guarantee
eGuarantee, Inc.
is a guarantee specialist. As the only listed company with a business model of undertaking and liquidating credit risks, it offers services involving the underwriting of credit risks such as sales credits and bills owned by large companies, small and medium enterprises, and financial institutions, helping to facilitate transactions between businesses. In April 2012, it set up a joint venture focusing on the purchase of electronically recorded monetary claims. eGuarantee aims to enlarge the circulation market of electronically recorded monetary claims by providing a one-stop service encompassing discounts, purchases, and liquidation of such claims.
