Social Contribution Programs to Commemorate the 150th Anniversary
In 2008, ITOCHU Corporation celebrated the 150th anniversary of its foundation. To commemorate this, we decided to promote two programs for social contribution activites considering staff member's request; “support for the activities restoring the tropical rainforests and conserving Borneo's ecosystem”, “establishment of the ITOCHU Scholarship Fund”.
Activities to restore the tropical rainforests and conserve Borneo's ecosystem
We will support reforestation program of WWF, the renowned conservation organization, in the island of Borneo. In collaboration with group companies, ITOCHU corporation will set up ITOCHU Group: Forest for Orang-utan to assist this program. Since this district is also home to orang-utan, these activities will help protect this endangered species.
We established this Fund to provide economic support to foreign students studying at Japanese universities. This assistance enables students to better focus on their academic work, and is designed to contribute to the development and strengthening of future ties between Japan and the student's home countries.
