Taking on the Challenge of Renewable Energy

Bolstering activities in the renewable energy sector is cited as a priority area in ITOCHU’s medium-term management plan, “Brand-new Deal 2012.” Wind, solar, geothermal and other renewable energies are expected to see growth going forward. ITOCHU intends to invest in power generation assets and other facilities that utilize these renewable energy sources and take part in manufacturing and distribution projects for products like bioethanol. Through these initiatives we will take on important social issues that affect the entire planet: reducing greenhouse gas emissions and addressing resource depletion.

CSR Action Plans

To steadily promote CSR through their business activities, each Division Company, and the administrative divisions that support them, takes the lead in identifying important social issues to confront and creating frontline-driven CSR action plans. CSR is then advanced in line with PDCA cycles.

CSR Action Plans and Report on Activities

CSR at the Textile Company: We place the priority on such CSR issues as further improving safety and customer satisfaction for goods and services. Also, we will strengthen CSR initiatives by promoting environment-conserving businesses and continuing CSR activities at group companies.

CSR at the ICT & Machinery Company: We develop and promote environment-friendly businesses and products which will reduce adverse impacts on the environment, and develop new businesses in a wide range of fields to contribute the prosperity of local communities and international society and to the establishment of a safe and affluent lifestyle.

CSR at the Energy, Metals & Minerals Company: Through the development and stable supply of resources and energy, the development of new energies that are kind to the earth, and initiatives for recycling-related businesses, we will contribute to society.

CSR at the Chemicals, Forest Products & General Merchandise Company: With maximum consideration for the environment, we strive to ensure the quality and safety of our various products, and provide products and services accurately responding to the needs of our customers both rapidly and stably, thus contributing to an affluent lifestyle of the people.

CSR at the Food Company: We believe that we need to contribute to society and respond to society's needs through the stable supply of safe food, consideration for the environment and other CSR activities.

CSR at the Construction & Realty Division: We will conduct sophisticated development with environmental awareness, and provide “secure,” “safe,” and “highly functional” facilities and services.

CSR at the Headquarters Business Organization: We will contribute to the realization of an affluent and sustainable society both domestically and overseas through the provision of services and solutions in the fields of finance, insurance and logistics.
