Fashion Earth PROJECT

We understand that it is part of our mission as a general trading company to analyze industry-specifi c issues and to provide solutions to them while conducting a broad array of business activities. In 2010, ITOCHU Corporation, originally engaging in the textile business, launched the Fashion Earth PROJECT to combat global warming with the participation of apparel manufacturers.

The Past Highlight

2011	Taking on the Challenge of Renewable Energy Bolstering activities in the renewable energy sector is cited as a priority area in ITOCHU’s medium-term management plan, “Brand-new Deal 2012.” Wind, solar, geothermal and other renewable energies are expected to see growth going forward. ITOCHU intends to invest in power generation assets and other facilities that utilize these renewable energy sources and take part in manufacturing and distribution projects for products like bioethanol. Through these initiatives we will take on important social issues that affect the entire planet: reducing greenhouse gas emissions and addressing resource depletion.
2010	Joint Pilot Project on Low Carbon Transportation System In May 2010, we launched a joint pilot project called the Green Crossover Project together with Tsukuba City in Ibaraki Prefecture. The project adopts a crossover approach in realizing a low-carbon society through the development of advanced applications for green energy and lithium-ion batteries.
2009	Developing a Value Chain in the Solar Energy Field In April 2009, we established the Solar Business Department to pursue solar business on a coordinated corporate-wide basis. With the intention of integrating our business activity across the entire solar power value chain, we will fully dedicate ourselves to the successful deployment of solar energy on a global basis.
