LeSportsac marketing of merchandise in collaboration with Stella McCartney
December 5, 2007
LeSportsac has decided to market a collection revolving around the theme of women's lifestyle and travel, based on collaboration with Stella McCartney.
The products will be sold by LeSportsac Japan Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo; Mr. Takao Kashiwabara, President) for three seasons beginning in March 2008.
Since its establishment of the brand in 1974, LeSportsac has garnered attention for its bags, which are favored for their sporty look, light weight, and deft fusion of fashionable flair and functionality against a background of a wealth of printed patterns. In addition to special polyester and nylon materials with excellent durability, the bags apply the finest sewing technology and sturdy zippers. The new original prints brought out every month by its own textile designers number as high as a hundred for the year. As fashion items women never tire of, they are a key factor behind its high position in the market.
LeSportsac bags were first offered in Japan in 1989, and found explosive popularity, mainly among young women who aspired to a sophisticated urban lifestyle. It has established a solid position in the industry as an imported bag brand that steadily continues to widen the ranks of its supporters.
Recently, the company has been vigorously trying to develop products in collaboration with designers and artists in various circles, in connection with the original prints it brings out each season. Reflecting the unique artistic sensibility of celebrities such as DIAN von FURSTENBURG, Gwen Stephanie, Hiroshi Tanabe, and Simone Legno, LeSportsac constantly provides new material for comment.
The collaboration with Stella McCartney, one of the hottest names in the fashion world these days, heralds the start of a challenging transition to a new stage.
The interaction between the two was a very natural development, seeing that LeSportsac is a professional in non-leather products and McCartney produces absolutely no leather goods. Stella decided to collaborate with LeSportsac, which is loved around the world, out of her deep desire to have the women of the world experience products grounded in their own lifestyle from the "real clothes" to which she is committed.
The first collection to debut in the spring of 2008 will consist of 20 styles of bags taking women's lifestyle and travel as their motif. Sales will be kicked off simultaneously at LeSportsac's Omotesando flagship store, Shinsaibashi flagship store, and other stores it runs itself as well as its shops in department stores across the country.
