ITOCHU Announces Investment in Team T5, Inc., a Provider of Security Solutions for Cyber Attacks in the Asia-Pacific Region

September 14, 2022

ITOCHU Corporation (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Keita Ishii, President & COO; hereinafter "ITOCHU") announced today that it invested in Team T5, Inc. (headquartered in Taipei, Taiwan; Sung-ting Tsai, CEO & Co-Founder; hereinafter "Team T5"), a provider of cyber attack security solutions in the Asia-Pacific region.

Corporate system environments have been complicated by factors such as the progress of information and telecommunications technology, an increase in the number of companies involved in a transformation of their business including a redefinition of their business model, and the widespread adoption of remote working due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, there has been an increase in the number of cyber attacks targeting vulnerabilities in the systems of corporations and organizations, including targeted threats and ransomware. As the types of cyber attacks have diversified, cyber threat intelligence (data collected, analyzed and assessed aiming to understand motives, targets and attack patterns of threat actors) that enables people to understand the characteristics of cyber attacks in each country and region has become more important. In these circumstances, the global cyber threat intelligence market is expected to rapidly grow from 8.94 billion U.S. dollars in 2022 to 29 billion U.S. dollars by 2030.

TeamT5 is a leading cyber security company with immense cyber attack threat intelligence that provides excellent, unique security solutions. The company owns the world's leading malware research team and supports customers to protect their systems and networks from cyber threats by monitoring, analyzing and tracking the cyber attacks that occur in the Asia-Pacific region in particular. Specifically, the company's mainstay products include tools for recognizing threats and accumulating threat intelligence and solutions for handling viruses during their incubation periods and the occurrence of incidents. In addition to the services being directly provided to government agencies, the telecommunication industry, and financial institutions, the products are also widely used by large security companies and other customers in the cyber security industry.

ITOCHU will increase its cyber attack threat intelligence, especially in the Asia-Pacific region, through the investment in Team T5. Additionally, ITOCHU will support Team T5's domestic and worldwide expansion utilizing the domestic and overseas networks of the ITOCHU Group. In collaboration with ITOCHU Techno-Solutions Corporation (headquarters in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Ichiro Tsuge, President and CEO), which owns extensive expertise in the development and operation of systems and applications, ITOCHU will support customers to solve their security issues in the digital age.

ITOCHU has had an eye on the security area for a while and has been monitoring investment and technology trends through influential venture capital companies in the U.S. and Israel which are a part of its portfolio. In December 2021, ITOCHU also reorganized SilverSky Inc., a US-based major security solution provider that develops a managed security service, into an equity-method affiliate. Moving forward, ITOCHU aims to contribute to creation of new value inside and outside Japan and to the revitalization of the economy as a whole by collaborating with promising companies and startups around the world in addition to this investment in Team T5.
