As the next step in a relationship of trust cultivated over almost five decades, ITOCHU acquired the Asian fresh produce business and the worldwide packaged foods business of Dole Food Company. Since its founding in 1851, Dole has grown into the world’s largest fresh produce company. Today, Dole operates in more than 90 countries around the world in North and South America, Asia and Europe and other areas, where it runs a fresh produce business growing banana and pineapple, and a processed foods business that produces processed fruit and vegetable products. In the fresh produce business, Dole boasts the world’s largest sales of banana and pineapple by volume, and in the processed foods business maintains many product lines that enjoy the leading market share in North American markets.
We will integrate ITOCHU’s existing global food value chain with the acquired businesses’ production and sales networks and the worldwide Dole brand, whose concept is “health and nutrition,” to work together to expand sales of existing products and develop new products and businesses that leverage the Dole brand, adding further to the value of the acquired businesses.
