ITOCHU Announces Annual Report 2020 Selected as “Outstanding Integrated Report” with the Most Votes by GPIF’s Domestic Equity Managers

February 25, 2021

ITOCHU Corporation (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Yoshihisa Suzuki, President & COO; hereinafter “ITOCHU”) announced today that its Annual Report 2020 has been selected as “Outstanding Integrated Report” for four consecutive years and as “Highly-Improved Integrated Report” by asset managers that are entrusted with the domestic equities of the Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF).

Regarding “Outstanding Integrated Report,” it has received high evaluations from the most asset managers (six managers) among all the selected companies.

The following are the main comments from the asset managers who highly evaluated ITOCHU’s report.

  • As in past years, this report has an impressive message from the CEO, and it clearly shows the awareness of the problems of the COVID-19 pandemic and its approach to sustainability.
  • It is noteworthy that non-financial information, such as reports on the status of governance structures at listed subsidiaries and business opportunities and risks based on PEST analysis focusing on macro-environmental factors, is linked to capital.
  • Risk management of the investment decision process, which is important for general trading companies, is described in detail, and the content is reassuring. In addition to providing comprehensive information, the report also provides a logical summary of measures to improve corporate value for each business.
  • In April 2020, the company revised the Corporate Mission to "Sampo-yoshi." The Corporate Mission is closely linked to all areas of finance and non-finance, and the roadmap for short-term and medium- to long-term growth is clearly shown in a unique way.

In addition, ITOCHU has received the highest Gold Award at WICI Japan Integrated Reporting Award 2020 held by WICI Japan which consists of business companies, financial analysts, investors, as well as public offices and researchers from academia.

ITOCHU will continue to further improve its annual reports and provide its investors and other stakeholders with useful financial and non-financial information.
