December 24, 2010

ITOCHU Corporation (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Masahiro Okafuji, President & CEO; hereinafter “ITOCHU”) and two of its wholly owned subsidiaries, ITOCHU (China) Holding Co., Ltd with offices in China, and ITOCHU Metals Corporation (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Masaki Oka, President & CEO), have established Integrated Recycling Operation, Dalian New Green Recycle & Resources Corporation, which handles recycling of Steel, Non-Ferrous scrap, consumer electronic and home appliances, plastics at Dalian Changxing Island Harbor Industrial Zone in China, holding its break ground ceremony in 24 Dec, 2010. Suzuki Shokai (headquartered in Sapporo, Hokkaido; Yoshikazu Komatani, President & CEO), a major Japanese recycling company, will be in charge of operation of Steel, Non-Ferrous scrap.

The Changxing Island Harbor Industrial Zone is located in the northwest of the city of Dalian, and regional development began in late-2005 as the primary area for the Liaoning provincial government’s Northeastern China Industrial Promotion Measures. It is regarded as a core area of the 4th national strategy project, announced in July 2009. Since it has been promoted to China National Economic & Technical Development Zone in April 2010、development of petrochemical industry、shipbuilding and ship machinery industry、offshore structural engineering industry、coastal transportation industry have been carried out.

ITOCHU regards energy-conservation and environmental businesses in China as a high-priority area. Particular attention has been paid to the Northeastern Regional Industrial Promotion Measures announced in 2003 by the Chinese government. ITOCHU has established bases in all three northeastern provinces and expanded its business activities. In 2009, ITOCHU carried out negotiations with the Liaoning Province government for developing the Changxing Island Harbor Development Zone as an environmentally friendly “eco-island” pursuing energy conservation and environmental protection. The Company has offered numerous proposals in areas such as water treatment, energy, transport and recycling. As a matter of fact, in April 2010 ITOCHU and partner Suez Environment S.A of France, one of the world’s largest water and waste management operation and maintenance service, were consigned by the Changxing Island Harbor Industrial Zone Commission for operation and maintenance service (O&M Service) at the North–South Sewage treatment Facility. The process has a capacity of 40,000 tons/day.

Dalian New Green is the second project following Sewage Treatment Operations and as the only recycling company licensed by the Chinese government at Dalian Changxing Island Harbor Industrial Zone, Dalian New Green is planning to install the one of the most sophisticated facilities in the worlds as well as Japanese advanced Environmental technologies. We will continue to work on establishment of the first ever Integrated Recycling Operation, which seeks to be a model in this recycling industry in China.
