ITOCHU Announces Tie-Up with Famima.Com for Sale of Regional Specialty Food Products of MICHINOEKI (Road Station)

ITOCHU Corporation (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Masahiro Okafuji, President & CEO; hereinafter “ITOCHU”) announced today that it has begun selling regional specialty food products of Michi-no-Eki (Road Stations) located throughout Japan using its Michi-Club network (http://www.michi-club.jp/[Open in a new window]) (*1) in cooperation with the major food wholesaler, Nippon Access, Inc. (headquartered in Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Shigeharu Tanaka, President & CEO; hereinafter “Nippon Access”). The products are sold at the Internet shopping website, famima.com (http://www.famima.com[Open in a new window]) operated by famima.com Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Toshima-ku, Tokyo; Toru Ichikawa, President & CEO; hereinafter “famima.com”), which plans and operates the services provided by the convenience store chain, FamilyMart.

At the exclusive corner set up for MICHINOEKI Goods (http://www.famima.com/shop/r/rmichi/[Open in a new window]) in the local specialty products corner, Goodies and Gourmet from across the Country, at famima.com, a fine selection of products carefully chosen from the following five MICHINOEKI has been sold in the first stage of the project: MICHINOEKI Morita (Aomori pref.), MICHINOEKI Arai (Niigata pref.), MICHINOEKI Kashimo (Gifu pref.), MICHINOEKI Takinomiya (Kagawa pref.), and MICHINOEKI Kamae (Oita pref.). In addition, a video corner has been launched as another new service in which MICHINOEKI station managers and staff introduce recommended products, which are delivered from time to time.

MICHINOEKI Morita (Aomori pref.)

Only apples harvested from a 130-year old apple tree designated as a natural monument are used in the jam.

MICHINOEKI Arai (Niigata pref.)

The shrimp is farmed in deep seawater and the meltwater of snow on Mt. Myoko, with no use of antibiotics. They can be eaten raw as well.

MICHINOEKI Kashimo (Gifu pref.)

“Kashimo no Tomato Juice Salt-Free 720 ml x 2 bottles” Price: 1,580 yen (tax included)
Great care is taken with the cultivation of tomatoes, beginning from the preparation of the soil. The attractive picture on the label was designed by Kiyoko Honma, writer who lives in Kashimo.

MICHINOEKI Takinomiya (Kagawa pref.)

“Sanuki no Yume 2000 Hannama Udon for six people with noodle sauce” Price: 1,080 yen (tax included)
“Sanuki no yume 2000,” a strain of wheat specially cultivated for Sanuki udon noodle in Kagawa through repeated breeding improvement and used exclusively for flour.

MICHINOEKI Kamae (Oita pref.)

“Sazae no Takikomimeshi no Moto 480g (for 2-go rice (360cc rice))” Price: 1,700 yen (tax included)
Sazae (turban shell) caught in the Bungo Channel is used based on a desire to deliver fresh seafoods caught at Kamae, fishers’ town situated at the southernmost area of Oita pref.

    Michi-Club has promoted the branding of local businesses centered on MICHINOEKI, and 364 Michi-no-Eki stations had registered with the Michi-Club as of May 31.
    At the MICHINOEKI Goods corner, more MICHINOEKI stations will be set up, offering products for sale through the MICHINOEKI network spreading nationwide to provide products that can convey the climate and soul of the producer of each region.
