ITOCHU Corporation (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Yoshihisa Suzuki, President & COO; hereinafter “ITOCHU”) announced today that it obtained the right to exclusively import and distribute the moccasins brand Minnetonka and the master license for that brand in the Japanese market. We will begin to offer the brand’s products in earnest from the spring/summer season of 2019.
Minnetonka brand moccasins were launched as the main item at a gift shop in Minneapolis in Minnesota in 1946. The brand triggered a moccasin boom concentrated on America and Japan in about 2005 to 2013 and became widely known as the favorite brand of top models and Hollywood actresses. Since its founding, the brand has made high-quality shoes handcrafted with skill. Now its items offered include boots, sandals, slippers and other kinds of footwear, which are distributed in more than fifty worldwide.
ITOCHU will start to offer the Minnetonka brand items at department stores, shops that deal in a selection of products, specialty stores, mass merchandisers, e-commerce, TV programs for mail order and other sales channels, targeting a wide range of women from their twenties to their fifties in the Japanese market, through TOPWIN JAPAN CO., LTD., EARTH MARKETING CORPORATION, Aussie co., ltd., and Converse Footwear Co., Ltd. In collaboration with these four companies, ITOCHU will develop a range of strategies for promotion campaigns to feature the image of the Minnetonka brand and increase its recognition, aiming at sales (from end customers) of 5 billion yen in five years.
