ITOCHU Announces Launch of Electronic Paper Notebook ALTERIC NOTE

May 16, 2022

ITOCHU Corporation (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Keita Ishii, President & COO; hereinafter "ITOCHU") announced today that it has commenced sales of ALTERIC NOTE, a notebook using the house brand of electronic paper for businesses in collaboration with E Ink Holdings (headquartered in Hsinchu Taiwan; Johnson Lee, CEO; hereinafter "E Ink"), the largest electronic paper manufacturer in the world.

Demand for electronic notebooks and tablets is growing while many people are working from home, and businesses today are promoting digital transformation and data security. In addition, as electronic paper consumes an extremely low amount of energy and has the function to replace paper, it is attracting attention from the perspective of the SDGs as a substitute for paper.

Under these circumstances, ITOCHU has launched the electronic paper notebook ALTERIC NOTE, which includes the following three key features:

Ultra-low power consumption and light weight
The battery life is generally up to 2 weeks on a full charge.*1 At 368 g, about half the weight of an ordinary tablet with the same large screen size (13.3"/A4) and high storage capacity, it can comfortably be carried with you.

High visibility and the touch of writing on like genuine paper
ALTERIC NOTE achieves visibility like that of a paper notebook and good pen strokes which are features of electronic paper. You can read digital documents as if you are reading them on paper. You can freely take notes and write things into PDF documents. You can save them to a computer or mobile device and seamlessly share the things that you have written.

Readiness for the control of devices for businesses
The dedicated server software enables documents to be transmitted and received between a host system and multiple ALTERIC NOTE devices. It also enables host systems to control folders and documents in devices. This is why ALTERIC NOTE is ideal for use in the improvement of the efficiency of document management and for the prevention of data leaks.

ITOCHU has commenced sales for businesses using domestic and overseas networks. In collaboration with CONEXIO Corporation (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Hiroshi Suguta, Representative Director and President; hereinafter "CONEXIO"), one of the ITOCHU group companies whose strengths are in the provision of mobile solutions for businesses, ITOCHU will engage in sales and marketing activities for ALTERIC NOTE and support the digital transformation of about 7000 companies that are CONEXIO customers.

ITOCHU agreed with E Ink on a collaboration for the domestic and overseas development of the product groups using electronic paper in November 2021.*2 This launch is the first part of this electronic paper production development project. ITOCHU in collaboration with E Ink will work to ubiquitize electronic paper, expand the products and services provided from the customers' perspective and contribute to development of a sustainable society.
