A household accounting app is an application that allows users to manage their income and expenses using a smartphone. Given the increased demand for family budget management connected to the recent increase in prices and the advancement of receipt reading technology, the household accounting app market is growing. In FY2027, the scale of the domestic market is expected to reach 13 billion yen,*1 which is about four times higher than in FY2021.
The Zaim household accounting app automatically enters purchased product information into the app when users take photos of receipts using their smartphones. Zaim has been downloaded 11 million times. Its collection of receipt data is the largest in Japan.
Utilizing the receipt data stored in Zaim enables the analysis of series of purchasing behaviors of users at multiple chain businesses, including supermarkets, drugstores, convenience stores and restaurants. Expectations are high regarding the use of receipt data, given the rising demand for marketing based on the customer’s perspective in response to the growing the diversity of customers’ lifestyles and values in recent years.
ITOCHU will start to provide the new FOODATA Receipt service for food manufacturers and retailers by connecting Zaim receipt data with the FOODATA*2 data analysis system that has been offered since 2021. FOODATA Receipt makes it possible to analyze receipt data obtained from about 100,000 users,*3 the largest scale system of its kind in Japan. FOODATA Receipt supports food manufacturers and retailers’ marketing efforts based on the customer’s perspective and needs by analyzing series of customer purchase behaviors.
In cooperation with Kufu, ITOCHU will develop a data marketing support businesses for food manufacturers and retailers and will contribute to the facilitation of data utilization throughout the food industry.
