ITOCHU Corporation CSR Report 2009 Recognized as Notable COP of the United Nations Global Compact

December 14, 2009

The ITOCHU Corporation CSR Report 2009 which ITOCHU Corporation (“ITOCHU”) submitted as its Communication on Progress (COP) to the United Nations Global Compact was recognized as a “Notable COP.”

The United Nations Global Compact, advocated by the former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan and launched in 2000, is both a policy platform and a practical framework for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with the ten principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. Participant organizations are asked to support and voluntarily practice the ten principles.
Business participants are required to submit reports on their progress on the ten principles of the United Nations Global Compact as an annual COP, and the Secretariat of the United Nations Global Compact reviews the COPs submitted based on certain criteria such as description of practical actions and measurement of outcomes, and recognizes particularly excellent COPs as the Notable COP.

ITOCHU supports the ten principles of the United Nations Global Compact and announced its participation in April 2009.
The ITOCHU Corporation CSR Report 2009, which ITOCHU submitted as COP for the first time was recognized as a Notable COP. ITOCHU will continue to work on the practice of the principles of the United Nations Global Compact and contribute to the construction of sustainable society based on its corporate mission of “Committed to the Global Good.”
