ITOCHU Announces New Event at ITOCHU AOYAMA ART SQUARE "Photo Exhibition by Teruo Sekiguchi: Smiles from Around the World"

July 1, 2013

ITOCHU Corporation (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Masahiro Okafuji, President & CEO; hereinafter “ITOCHU”) opened ITOCHU AOYAMA ART SQUARE in the CI Plaza, a commercial facility situated next to ITOCHU’s Tokyo Head Office, in October 2012. The gallery was opened as part of ITOCHU’s social contribution activities and with the aim of developing the next generation through art, contributing to the local community and promoting both local and overseas art and culture, and various exhibitions have since been held in the space.

As a new project, ITOCHU will hold “Photo Exhibition by Teruo Sekiguchi: Smiles from Around the World” at the gallery from Monday, July 22, 2013. As a photographer, Sekiguchi has visited far-flung regions around the world and made capturing glimpses of the various lifestyles and people of such locations his life’s work. For this exhibition, visitors can view images of people pursuing life in a selection of these locations with a focus on Bhutan, Myanmar and Cuba. ITOCHU hopes that viewing people living their lives in coexistence with nature and in accordance with unique cultures will provide visitors with the opportunity to reexamine what “living” means to them.
