CAO Kobayashi Delivers Lecture at Shiga University: “Corporate Competitive Strategy and Sampo-yoshi”

December 8, 2025

On December 8, 2025, ITOCHU’s Executive Vice President & CAO, Fumihiko Kobayashi, delivered a lecture at Shiga University Auditorium on the theme of “Corporate Competitive Strategy and Sampo-yoshi.” Mr. Kobayashi serves as a visiting professor at Shiga University. The historic auditorium—designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan—was filled with a large audience of students and faculty members. Including online participants, approximately 300 people attended the lecture.

In his presentation, Mr. Kobayashi explained the achievements of our labor productivity improvement model implemented under ITOCHU Group’s corporate mission, Sampo-yoshi —the Japanese merchant philosophy, meaning “good for the seller, good for the buyer, and good for society.” He then outlined a unified theory of ethical capitalism that uses Sampo-yoshi as an ethical spine to integrate existing Western theories.
