FamilyMart In-Store Media Business

Itochu is developing in-store media business using large-sized digital signage through Gate One, Corp., a joint venture company between Itochu and FamilyMart.
FamilyMart operates approximately 16,600 stores in Japan where they come in contact with over 450 million customers each month, and where about 15 million customers purchase various products each day. Considering the traffic data as a significant asset for media, FamilyMart is installing multiple large-sized digital signage at stores nationwide. Through the installed signage, FamilyMart will provide a wide range of contents from entertainment and art, to news and local information, providing the customers with a new store experience. Furthermore, taking advantage of the presence of FamilyMart stores in local communities, we aim to present regional content to make the digital signage a more familiar medium to customers.
In addition to appealing to visual and auditory senses through the use of large screens and in-store speakers, high media effects can be achieved by measuring effects using data, such as viewing conditions using AI cameras and purchasing effects using POS data. In addition, by collaborating with Data One, Corp. that provides digital advertising distribution business utilizing customer purchase data, we will be able to continuously appeal to customers both offline and online, and provide further advanced advertising services.

In the future, we will form alliances with retailers including supermarkets and drugstores other than FamilyMart to expand our media network and support effective marketing and branding of companies.
