Coal Business in Australia and Indonesia

Cooperating with Switzerland-based Glencore Plc., and Australia-based Whitehaven Coal Ltd., ITOCHU is promoting numerous coal development projects in Australia.
Production began in January 2015 at the Maules Creek coal mine, which ITOCHU operates in conjunction with Whitehaven Coal, in New South Wales, Australia.
With a production capacity of 13 million tons per year, Maules Creek is one of the largest coal mines in the state.
Moreover, ITOCHU holds exclusive marketing rights on coal produced at the mine for Japan and preferential marketing rights for other countries. ITOCHU is focusing on sales activities targeting Japanese and Asian customers, such as power utilities and steel companies.

In Indonesia, the PT Suprabari Mapanindo coal mine, located at the center of the island of Kalimantan (Borneo), commenced shipments in early 2015.
In addition to contributing to the diversification of supply sources, ITOCHU supports sustainable resource development through various social contribution activities, such as promoting employment and infrastructure development in the local region.
