SAF/RD/Bio-Bunker - Renewable Fuel Business for Realization of Carbon Neutrality

In October 2020, Prime Minister Suga announced a policy to achieve net zero emissions (Carbon Neutral) by 2050. Since then, the environmental movement that customer efforts to reduce direct emissions from businesses and the entire supply chain have become active.
Aiming to contribute to the reduction of emissions from the transportation sector, ITOCHU are promoting SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) in the air-transportation, RD (Renewable Diesel) in the land-transportation, and bio-bunkers in the marine-transportation.
ITOCHU are working to establish a supply chain and expand the supply system to expand its use. SAF and RD are procured from Neste (Finland), the world's largest supplier of renewable fuel. So far, ITOCHU have supplied SAF to airlines such as All Nippon Airways Co., Ltd. and Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. and others at the airport in Japan. In addition, ITOCHU are steadily accumulating a track record of supplying RD as fuel for delivery trucks, buses, and heavy-duty machinery at construction sites.

Neste's SAF/RD is produce mainly from waste oils and fats that do not compete with foods as raw materials, and achieves an 80-90% GHG reduction compared to petroleum-derived fuels on an LCA basis. As for Bio-Bunker, through co-work with Good Fuel (Netherlands), ITOCHU has started its supplying in Singapore first, with a view to starting supply in Japan in the near future.

There is also the convenience of using the existing distribution infrastructure as it is for the vehicles and machines that are in operation at the moment, and the transactions of this fuel that can effectively reduce emissions for customers are gathering bigger expectations from a wide range of industries and customers. ITOCHU will continue to establish a supply chain, expand its supply, and promote it together with our customers.
